Mouthguards, also called mouth protectors, help cushion a blow to the face, minimizing the risk of broken teeth and injuries to your lips, tongue, face or jaw. They typically cover the upper teeth and are a great way to protect the soft tissues of your tongue, lips, and cheek lining.

We Custom Make Mouthguards for Your Patients

The best mouthguard is one that has been custom made for your patient’s mouth by you. We are here to help you deliver on that custom-made mouthguard.

We’ll use your digital impressions to create a mouthguard specifically for the structure of your patient’s teeth and mouth. This provides a much better fit than either a stock or boil-and-bite mouthguard does, which makes them more comfortable and harder to accidentally dislodge while sleeping.

Mouthguards are important in contact sports and in non-contact sports as well to protect the athlete.

Who Should Wear Mouthguards?

Obviously, the first thing that comes to mind is sports. When it comes to protecting the mouth, a mouthguard is an essential piece of athletic gear that should be part of all standard equipment from an early age. While collision and contact sports, such as football, are higher-risk sports for the mouth, any athlete may experience a dental injury in non-contact activities too, such as gymnastics and skating.

Another, less obvious need, is for patients who grind their teeth (bruxism), snore, or have sleep apnea. Mouthguards are often very helpful with these sleep disorders. While a custom-made mouthguard is more expensive than an over-the-counter mouthguard, many dental insurance plans cover some or all of the cost.

Protecting Braces and Dental Work

A properly fitted mouthguard is especially important for people who wear braces or have bridgework. A blow to the face or night grinding is damaging for brackets or other fixed orthodontic appliances. A mouthguard also provides a barrier between the braces and cheeks or lips which helps prevent injuries.
